Due to the recent nature of M1 computer that's causing slow WRITE speed, we recommend using the highlighted in yellow SSD model. Which had been tested and proven to be not affected by M1 computer.
Updated as of 25OCT2022:-
SSD Compatible List below tells you if an SSD is compatible with Mac OS or Windows OS. 【NOTE: A Mac compatible SSD may still be having SLOW WRITE SPEED on an M1 computer. For that, please see further below, there's a list that talks about that.】
Update on Samsung 970 EVO Plus (25OCT2022):- There's a message sent to us by a customer of ours updating us that the Samsung 970 EVO Plus would work just find on an M1 computer. However, we've received so many feedbacks from different customers that Samsung 970 EVO Plus has been not compatible with Mac OS. So, for the time being we're still listing Samsung 970 EVO PLUS as incompatible, until we've received more of the same feedbacks before listing it as a compatible one.
NVMe SSD Models NOT having Slow WRITE Speed issues on M1 Computers - Updated 27FEB2023
SSD Heatsink(s) / Cooler(s) in the market that fits in our Mac Mini Dock perfectly (should you decide to get an extra heatsink)
Here's the list of compatible M.2 NVMe SSD Heatsink(s) & Cooler(s) that fits right in our Mac Mini Dock:-
1) Be Quiet MC1 Cooler (Thanks to Christophe for the pictures & information)
Hello, wil be works with Kingston NV2 SSD 4TB NVMe for MacBook pro 2023 M2 Max please?
Hello,
I'd like to buy a 4 bay Nvme drive enclosure without fans because I need silence in my recording studio:
What 4Tb drives do you recommend ? I was thinking about Samsung SSD 990 Pro....like this one https://www.amazon.fr/Samsung-MZ-V9P1T0CW-Disque-Interne-dissipateur-dp-B0CDJ61VJW/dp/B0BM42X58C/ref=dp_ob_title_ce?th=1
I am a bit scared the 4 drives run too hot, will the Be Quiet MC1 Cooler extra heatsink fit right in the 4 bay enclosure ?
Thanks
Took me some time (I was on an MTB trip). But I m back home, and set up Trebleet Mac Mini Thunderbolt 3 Dock with Dual NVMe Slot & CFexpress Card Slot.
So it runs with a Corsair MP600 Core XT 4 TB in NVME 1 slot and another (the same model) SSD in an Orico enclosure. Both do about 2600 MB/s R/W on my Mac Studio M2 Max.
okokok
If you're looking to boot directly from the PCIe NVMe SSD, Western Digital's SN850X is a good choice, tested and proven by Walter. =)
A customer's review - He's using Apple macStudio Ultra with M2 Trebleet Mac Mini Dock along with a Corsair Pro NH 8TB. The combination is working perfectly fine. Pretty impressive READ and WRITE speed too.
For now the new 8 TB M2 NVME SSD are very expensive... but in the future... would it take a 8 TB SSD? Or is 4 TB max capacity? (Orico enclosure goes up to 4TB, Onyoyo goes up to 8 TB).
Just wandering...
Hi there, I was going to purchase a SK Hynix P41 Platinum to pair with the Trebleet Thunderbolt 3 SSD Chassis. Is this NVMe drive compatible? Your table has the older Hynix Gold drive from a couple of years ago. There's been some new improvements made to the Hynix P41 Platinum drive and it is universally highly regarded by all review outlets. I'm sure there would be others interested to purchase this drive and use your products so I'd like to know its compatibility and whether the speeds would be throttled in an M1 Mac Computer. Thank you!
Hello, Do you have a list for the 2.5" SATA SDD compatibility ? I want to install a Samsung 870 QVO SATA III 2.5" SSD 8TB (MZ-77Q2T0B) https://a.co/d/eaQj7DE . I have a Mac Studio and the dock is working fine with a Samsung SSD 980 pro 2tb . but I need more space, so I want the two SSD working together at the same time. Thank you in advance!
A result tested by Bob on his Mac Mini Dock with Western Digital (WD)SN850X 2TB - The result is as expected, and recommended.
Max Studio with 4TB Crucial P3 PCIe 3.0 installed in our Mac Mini Dock, the READ / WRITE Speed is pretty sweet. - from Ben M.
I bought Be Quiet MC1 Cooler and use it with Kingston KC3000 2TB NVMe but there is one caution:
KC3000 has double sided memory and this makes problem with mounting it into the dock using original thermopad (supplied with the heatsink) because the SSD connector on the board is soldered very close to the board and there is no space for cooler. It is not possible to mount it using original thermopad, you need to buy thinner thermopad (only one, for the bottom part of the SSD) or just use thermal paste instead of the thermopad (I did it such way but I don't know if using thermal paste is correct - but it works).
Another speedtest results from a dear customer, Nic. He's running Mac OS 12.6.4 on his Mac Studio Ultra with 64GB of RAM a 20-core CPU, 48-core GPU, and a 32-core Neural Engine.
Samsung 980 PRO - with a 2GB load
Samsung 980 PRO - with a 5GB load
Kingston KC3000 - with a 2GB load
Kingston KC3000 - with a 4GB load
Hope this will give you guys a clearer picture as to kind of performance to expect. =)
Mac OS 13 Ventura, M1 Studio - Crucial P3 4TB Approx RW 2700
Do you know if the dock is compatible with the Kingston KC3000 1 or 2 TB NVME SSD on the Mac? Regards
Hey. I have been using a Samsung 970 EVO Plus since receiving my unit. Everything has worked fine. What should be more important than which drive works is being able to update the firmware in a Mac environment. M1 Studio here!!
Hi, after I received my Mac Mini Thunderbolt 3 Dock with NVMe &SATA Slot, I installed a WD Black SN850X NVNe ssd with 4TB and the speed is r/w 2820/2770 MB/s I did not expect such a high speed. Thanks for this product.
Whats the difference between the Yellow entries (recommended) and the ones with just a check mark?
I have a iMac Intel 27 Retina 5K Display 2019. Which SSD do you recommend? I have a extra 970 EVO 500GB. will that be good enough or should I stick with the ones in Yellow?
I would probably remove the Western Digital SN850 from the list unless you can somehow put me in contact with the *one* client who justified listing it as compatible so I can see how their setup differs from mine. (M1 Mac Mini, no Thunderbolt hubs). My write speed is fine at 2800+ but read speed is at a paltry 1300 (comparatively to what the write is).
At the very least, it should be listed as incompatible but your mileage may vary. Ridiculous.
