Hi! I bought in 2020 the TB3 Enclose (sku 12), I installed a Samsung 970 EVO 1TB in it and I have been using it without any issues until recently. It was working very well on a MacBook Pro 2019 15" and then on a Macbook Pro M1. I recently switched to a Macbook Pro M1 Max and now I get mounting issues: I plug the TB3 cable (the one that was provided with the enclosure) and the 4 green LEDs are turned on, but it doesn't mount. Unplugging and plugging it on another port doesn't make any difference. I also tried to plug it on my CalDigit TS3+ dock (on the TB 3 port), still nothing. I tried with another TB3 cable (the one that I use daily with my dock), still nothing.
The drive mounts fine when I plug it in my other computers (a Macbook Pro M1 Pro or M1)
Not sure what's going on and how to dig into this issue. Should I look for a specific message somewhere ? Console.app ? Any idea how to fix this? Anyone having the same issue/trouble?
No problem and you're most welcome, Chad. =)
Thank you! Exactly what I needed to know.
With two SSDs installed and software RAID 0 setup, it should offer the same speed as a Thunderbolt 3 SSD enclosure (which is about 2500Mbs WRITE / 2800 Mbps READ speed, maximum). And yes, that's how it works, each drive slot is dedicated with 2 PCIe lanes. Therefore if just a single SSD is installed, the approximate maximum speed one would get is at about 1500 Mbps (with only 2 PCIe lanes working at a time). The speed would not be hindered when both drives are working in either Software RAID 0 or RAID 1 setup. Of course, if you're making a RAID 1 setup, the speed would only be approximately at 1300Mbps WRITE & 1500Mbps READ (as per pic below, that was tested with a WD SN700 on a MacBook Air M1 before). Also, we're including the download link of the Dual Slot SSD Enclosure Quick Start Guide below, should you need to have a clearer understanding about the product itself.
What are the estimated read/write speeds using an NVME 3.0 SSD using them in a non-RAID setup with this dual enclosure? Does the dual enclosure dedicate two PCIe lanes to each drive? Will the read/write times slow down with both drives working at the same time in a non-RAID setup? And what model of thunderbolt controller is in the dual NVME enclosure? Thanks!
Hello Hi5, if you're looking to know if the issue under this thread has been solved, the above is self-explanatory, you may have a look at it. However, if you're looking for the dual SSD enclosure, you may find the product here at: https://www.trebleet.com/product-page/thunderbolt-3-two-slot-m-2-nvme-ssd-storage
Also, if you're wondering about its speed, it depends on if the unit is being software setup as Raid 0 or Raid 1 format. Also, that depends on the model of SSD used too. Attached pic and video are to show you the approximate speed that one should get under Raid 1 setup (shown on pic) and Raid 0 setup (shown on video made by one of our customers). Attached also the SSD compatible list, kindly go through it before you get the SSD to go with the enclosure.
want to buy dual slot ssd if there is always issue after update then I think about this
still working or not pls let me know
Noted and you're most welcome, Julien. =) Really hope that the next OS will get this issue fixed too. Best regards,

Thanks Choon Wai, Yeah I'll wait for the next OS update and report back. Fingers crossed! Best regards Julien
Hi Julien, am so sorry to hear that. I went to check online, it seems like some users are facing the same issue after upgrading their OS to Monterey. Perhaps waiting for the next update is the only way to work around. Till then, it's going to be a little inconvenient for you there. The article I read was: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/253320101
Kindly do keep us posted should there's anything else we could do for you there~! Best regards,

Hi ! Thanks for your answer... Unfortunately, the reboot is not fixing it. I mean it fixes the issue for a while, and then, after a certain amount of time (usually less than a day), the drive will not mount. I guess that something is messing with the drive detection (a software? My dock?) But yeah, rebooting again and it works again... I can live with that since rebooting is very fast, but it's annoying. Maybe it will be fixed in the next Monterey releases.
Also, no speed issue, it works as expected on all my M1s (around 2500-2600MBps for read & write) but it's the TB3-only enclosure. I've noticed reduced speeds with USB 3.x enclosures ( I have a Samsung T7 2To that barely reaches 800Mbs... instead of the ~950 Mbps on an Intel Macbook...)
We're really glad that it's working and mounting correctly there now, Julien. As we've been getting some abnormality report with M1 chipset devices recently. Most of them were about having normal READ Speed, but almost half of the usual WRITE Speed. All we know is that it's probably some sort of limitation from the M1 chipset end, and perhaps would only be rectified in the coming OS update or something. As from what we know is that the enclosure should be in good condition and it's working normally, just the WRITE Speed is somewhat being limited. Link: https://origin-discussions2-us-dr-prz.apple.com/en/thread/253097384 Perhaps what you were facing there was of the same cause. But glad that just restarting it fixed the issue there. Thank you so much for the update, Julien. =)
Update: restarting the Macbook Pro M1 Max allows the drive to mount correctly. I am not sure why and what can cause it to stop recognize the drive...
